About your Appointment

What happens at your child’s assessment?

Appointments are Telehealth via zoom meeting. Initial consultations are 1 hour in a quiet space with you and your child present. A zoom link will be attached to your appointment reminder. You will need a laptop or iPad for the appointment to allow you to view documents via screen sharing during the appointment. Hayley will assess your child and formulate an individual management plan. The first visit involves a lot of questions to obtain a clear picture of the situation. This is also a time to build rapport with your child and family which assists in the overall process. Each child is managed on an individual basis and age appropriate capabilities are kept in mind as well as family circumstance.

What is required for your child’s appointment?

You will need to assist your child to complete bladder and bowel diaries prior to the first appointment. The diaries are crucial in assessing your child accurately and determining the most appropriate individual management plan. You will be sent these diaries via email once you are booked in and they take 2 weeks to complete.

A summary of your child’s bladder and bowel function will be provided to you as well as a copy of your child’s full continence assessment. It is helpful to have a list of any medical history for your child and any medications they may be taking. It is important to rule out underlying medical issues such as incomplete bladder emptying, infection, sleep apnoea or constipation therefore you may be asked to see your GP for an abdominal exam or for a request for your child to have an ultrasound, xray, urine pathology or sleep physician review.

Do you need a GP referral?

A referral is not required however it is helpful if you do get one as Hayley will liaise with your child’s GP from time to time. You are welcome to share your child’s continence assessment with your GP, Paediatrician, allied health staff, NDIS or school/kindy.
